Hoot 7

Hello Wonderful First Grade Families,

As we are entering the dark season, we'd like to share the celebrations of light from different cultures around the world. Last week Jasmine and Anandi brought us mythical stories and magical art to learn about the Indian celebration of Diwali.

This week we are inviting you all to kindle our inner light as we walk our lanterns into the winter season. Please come and sing with us at our annual TISA Lantern Walk on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5:30 to 7pm. We will start in the community room with a fundraiser from 5:30 to 6:30. Frito pies will be sold along with bottled water for $5. Soft drinks will be also available. We will be holding the lantern walk in the large open field from 6:30 to 7:00. Please remember not to park in the field.

Students of the month will be also honored on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 3pm. This month we will be honoring Gracen Jackson and Owen Mallwitz. Congratulations for their hard work and eager participation. They are such kind friends and helpful members of our class community!

Halloween fun is upon us!
On October 31 we are also scheduled to go on our first field trip to the Harwood Museum. We will taking the bus at 9:45. You are welcome to join us on that field trip!

For Halloween, please have your child bring their costume in a bag to be worn in the afternoon. Costumes with weapons and gory details (blood, fangs, scary features) are discouraged. If you are interested in participating in an activity (ring toss, gook making, candy math, etc.), reading a story, or helping with face painting, please let me know. I will be sending home a party supply list on Thursday.
Please be advised that bringing candy next week (before or after Halloween) is especially not advised. Trust me, there will be no lack, as even I will have a few pieces in class for the children as well!

A few housekeeping items:
We are in need of a class parent/first grade parent representative. If you are interested, please let me know. The class parent's role is to be a liaison between the PTA and the first grade community and also help me with class functions such as a phone tree, and sharing information.

We are running low on drinking water.

As cold weather approaches, please make sure to send in a full set of extra clothing, including a pair of mittens and a hat to be kept in your child's cubby.

A few productive kiddos are ready for a new sketchbook.

Bringing toys, jewelry and candy to school is generally discouraged. Precious items get lost, swallowed, broken, and occasionally even stolen. Let's not put our children in that  sad position. It would be really helpful if you checked in with your child about that. Thank you.

Parent conferences will be held on November 9. Every family is expected to attend. Please stay tuned for online sign-up and more information regarding the conference.

Have a nice week!
Jutka
