HOOT 12

  • Istation is the reading and math app that we use at school. Istation information is coming home on Thursday with the homework packet. It will allow your child to work on Istation READING AND MATH at home. It will also help you become familiar with the program so you can better support your child's reading and math skills. Please let me know if you run into any glitches installing it on your device (desktop, laptop, Chromebook, or tablet). I would love to get some feedback from you about it.
  • TISA's Spelling Bee will be held Monday, January 22nd. Exact time TBA. Congratulations to our winners: Gracen Royce Jackson and Sergio Santiago Cardenas! Please refer to the practice sheet for first grade words. You might also want to watch a couple clips on Youtube to get a sense for the logistics.
  • Pizza money is due on Tuesday
  • Pizza day is this Thursday
  • Student of the Month- Friday, January 26th (2:30 in common room). Congratulations to Annabella Carson and Winterfox Yepa-Lujan. They have both worked super hard in January on their reading skills.
  • Next Friday (Jan 26) there IS school.
  • Parent Teacher conferences are Friday, February 8th. Please look for an email from SignUpGenius to pick a time online.
  • Basketball Court in the works!  We have almost met our goal for donorschoose.org to fund our basketball court. To pitch in, please go to https://www.donorschoose.org/project/hoops-for-hope/3007270/?utm_source=dc&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=project&utm_term=teacher_3222566&rf=facebook-dc-2018-01-project-teacher_3222566&challengeid=20670585#_=_

Hoot 11

Happy new year to everyone! I hope you all have had an enjoyable time with family and friends. School starts tomorrow, on Monday (Jan. 8). I am excited to see first graders grow their skills in 2018! We will be honing our reading skills working with long vowel sounds and "r" controlled syllables. In math we will be working with addition, subtraction, place value and money. And it will be fun to make snow slime (though it's not quite like the real thing), gingerbread dough, and ice art!

Upcoming Events:
  • Friday January 12th and Friday January 26: TISA is in session from 8am to 4pm. Please make sure your child is in school on these Fridays.
  • I am looking for volunteers to run a small group reading center. Fridays would be ideal. 30 minutes to an hour sessions would work sometime between 8:30-11:30 or 12:30-3:30.
  • New year's wish list: 2018 calendars, old calendars (for collaging), water, tennis balls (for chair legs), help hang a few pieces of hardware (screw in 4 curtain rods)
  • Feb 8  (Thursday): parent-teacher conferences and report cards
  • Feb 14: Valentine's Ice Cream Sundae Party!
  • Prepare for Snowy Days: Just in case we get some snow…Our school follows the Taos Municipal Schools decisions regarding school closures and delays.  Please listen to KTAO radio at 101.9 on the FM dial for school closure and delay announcements.
  • Dress your Child for Winter Weather: Please send an extra hat, gloves/mittens and a pair of slippers to stash in your child's cubby for winter weather (all the way through April)!  If it is snowy or wet, please send your child in a winter jacket, snow pants and boots. Outdoor recesses are a lot more fun when the children are dressed appropriately for the weather!
  • Student of the month and pizza days to be announced soon.
  • Scholastic book order flyers will be coming home this week.
